Breeding Costs Affect the Price of Ragdoll Cats
Perhaps you’ve been canvassing prices of Ragdoll cats and have noticed that the prices tend to vary considerably among breeders. Breeding a purebred cat like the Ragdoll can be very costly. There are so many costly expenses that come with breeding a high-quality Ragdoll cat.
Furnishing
Our cattery is fully equipped with everything our furry babies need in order to feel happy and safe; we have four cozy rooms – the Breeding room, the Labour room, the Kitten room, and the Relaxing area. Each of these rooms is furnished with Cat Trees, toys, scratching posts, and shelves. Our ultimate goal is to ensure our babies' comfort and enjoyment and to provide the best care and attention.
Acquisition of breeding cats
The cost of importing the breeding cats along with transportation fees is extremely expensive.
DNA & BLOOD TESTING
We have our adults undergo DNA tests to make sure that they fit the standard of the breed and to screen for inherited diseases and abnormalities. Also, they have blood tests to screen for FeLV and FIV.
Not all breeders will have their adults do DNA & blood testing.
Food
We choose Orijen, Rawz, Tiki Cats, Primal, Feline Natural, NZ Natural Pet Food, Vital Essential, Bixbi, and Happy Days for our babies. Sometimes we also make homemade food for them such as cooked chicken breast and thigh, Quail with bone broth, and raw beef and salmon.
The food brand price varies, and we basically choose the best among all the brands which results in a higher price.
Environment Maintenance
Daily cleaning and sanitizing
Health procedures issued to the kittens
The 3 sets of core vaccination, worms, and fleas treatment, spay and neuter surgery with a microchip.
Some only cover the 1st core vaccination. And we cover 3 sets of core vaccines. Also, vaccination rates vary depending on their location.
Our pricing reflects the comprehensive care we invest in our kittens. When you are purchasing the kitten, you are not just paying for the kitten itself but also paying for the initial vet bill which is included in the price already. The 3 sets of core vaccination, worms and fleas treatment, spay and neuter surgery with the microchip are almost $1000 in Vancouver. And the cost of vets and supplies keeps increasing every year. Acquiring a sickly cat can multiply your expenses tenfold, so it’s important to get your healthy Ragdoll from a reputable breeder.
While it can’t be denied that Ragdoll cats are very expensive, all our satisfied parents would swear that they are worth every penny.
